Shelley Vana: Proven Leadership over decades of public service
Commissioner Shelley Vana is a proven leader throughout Palm Beach County. She began her career at the Palm Beach County School District as a teacher for 20 years. She has taught at Dreyfoos School of the Arts, Jupiter High School and served as a district-wide science resource coordinator. During this time Shelley served as the President and CEO of the Palm Beach County Classroom Teachers Association.
Commissioner Vana has also been involved with Public Television and Radio as on-air talent. She hosted AIDS 101, the first weekly public affairs TV show addressing the AIDS epidemic. She also hosted and produced First Issue, a weekly public affairs radio program.
Commissioner Vana was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2002. She represented Florida House District 85 which included various cities in Central and Western Palm Beach County. As a member of the Florida House of Representatives, Shelley Vana served on the Education K-20 Committee, Education Appropriation Subcommittee, Policy and Budget Council, Growth Management Committee, Business Regulation, Health Care, Health Care Regulation, Telecommunications Committee and Agriculture Committee. During this time Shelley worked with fellow legislators on meaningful legislation addressing Public Records, Homestead Portability, Property Tax Exemptions, Property Tax Reform and Property Insurance Reform that affects every homeowner in Palm Beach County and throughout the entire State of Florida. These pieces of legislation direct and regulate how Property Appraisers carry out their duties.
